October Gathering [Sep. 25th, 2009|12:50 pm]

wookiemonster
Hey Folks!

Time to start thinking about our next meeting! Looking at the first full week in October, the week of the fifth, would Wednesday, Oct 7 work well for people? I know we all have shifting schedules, and I'm wondering if Wednesdays would work better for some of us. Leave a comment and we'll try to figure out the best day for October...

Writing Advice [Jul. 31st, 2009|07:44 pm]

Hey there folks!

I came across this article written by John Scalzi on sacrifices writer's have to make for their art. Mr. Scalzi is the author of the Old Man's War series of books, the first of which he won the John F. Campbell award for best new author. The success of his career has enabled him to drop his day job and write full-time.

Not too long ago, he also wrote an entry about "new" novelists usually being in their thirties, which made me feel like much less of a failure for not actually having anything published at this point.

He has an RSS feed here on LiveJournal (scalzifeed), but I will try to remember to post here whenever he (or any other author, agent, publisher, and such) makes an entry that may help us as writers.

I think that since a lot of people tend to take vacations this time of year (with the holiday and all), we're going to postpone the meeting a week.

Hi, everyone.

I have a question for you all that was brought up at our last meeting.

Do we want to move our meeting for July? It's supposed to be on July 7th, but we weren't sure if a lot of people were going to still be out of town because of the holiday or whatever.

So, what do you think? Should we move the meeting back a week or keep it the same or what?

script frenzy [Apr. 8th, 2009|08:24 am]

I know it's all late and wrong to be posting about script frenzy, but most of us connected to Nano have probably gotten an email about it.  The real reason I post is because I found some pretty amazing script writing freeware out there that takes all the guess work out of writing screenplays.

The software is called Celtx.  I'll post a link to the wiki page, as that has more information and does actually say the word "free", to confirm that it is freeware.  Celtx Wiki.

Not sure if anyone has expressed interest in writing a screenplay, but like I said, this takes all the thinking out of it.  Hope you find the info useful or at the very least, intriguing.
